On September 12, the EU Data Law comes into force: is your company ready?

The European Union Data Protection Act (Data Act) will become effective next year. September 12, 2025. This legislation marks a before and after in the way data generated by connected products and digital services is accessed, used and shared in the EU. If your company is part of the digital ecosystem - whether as a manufacturer, service provider or data manager - it is essential to understand what this new regulation implies and how it may affect you.

What is the EU Data Law?

The Data Act is one of the cornerstones of the European Commission's digital strategy. It aims to foster a fairer, more competitive and open data economy. Simply put, it seeks to make the data generated by connected products (such as IoT devices, smart machinery, vehicles, etc.) not only accessible to manufacturers, but also to users. and authorized third parties.

  • Greater control

for users about the data generated by the devices they use.

  • Equal access to data

to encourage innovation and avoid monopolization by large platforms.

  • Facilitation of change

cloud service provider by eliminating technical and contractual barriers.

  • Contractual obligations

clear in the exchange of data between companies (B2B) and between companies and public administrations (B2G).

Why is it a challenge for companies?

The entry into force of this law poses several challenges that organizations must address in advance:

  1. Technical adaptation: Companies should ensure that products and services are designed to allow access and data portability in a transparent and secure manner.
  2. Contractual redesign: It will be necessary to review data use, access and sharing agreements, complying with the new requirements of fairness and transparency.
  3. Cybersecurity and privacy: Shared data access must comply with the GDPR and maintain high standards of protection.
  4. Interoperability: Systems must be prepared to enable data exchange between different platforms and players in the digital ecosystem.

In short, the impact will be transversal: from legal departments to IT teams, including operations, compliance and product strategy.

How can we help you?

Although the Data Act is a challenge, it also opens up a world of opportunities: new business models based on shared data, improved transparency and trust with customers, and a more collaborative and innovative ecosystem. At NATEEVO we are closely following the evolution of this regulation and we are already working with organizations that want to get ahead of it and prepare early.
